in better shape than we have seen him before - check out this
recent shot. Apparantly Dr Robo has been leading a new life in
the UK - hmmm.
* Fozzie Foster heads to the USA for the Arizona Ironman
- where he actually gets to swim!
My race was a bit of a mixed bag but good to finish on a pretty
good
result. The field of men was a top pro field with 50 guys - also
very big!
It was a buzz to lead out of the water
in 46.57 about 50 secs from the
next two. I broke the timing chip in transition as I got my wetsuit
off
and got out on the bike and led for about 35 km! The tv cameras
were
filming me lots! Then I stuck with the two guys that came up
to me and I
biked with them to the first turnaround (there were three laps)
and some
more. We were biking fast! But then I started to realise it was
a bit too
fast and I started to get a very sore left glut and hamstring.
They were
very painful and for the next lap I had to hop out of the saddle
a lot. It
was a long flat course with a gradual climb of about 5km in the
middle of
each lap. So all on the aerobars which I haven't practised much
of! Anyway I felt a little better on the last lap although had
very sore toes too! My feet are badly blistered and black nails
today! I came off the bike with old friend Peter Clode! We swam
the swim course together a few days before. I then ran fast and
passed four guys in the first of three laps. I still ran solid
for the second lap but maybe the hard concrete, the running out
of nutition, or the heat exhaustion - it was 30 degrees!, all
took their toll and I ran very slow the last 10 miles! However
15th in 9.02 was still respectable. See www.Ironmanrizona.com
for full results.

* Fozzie Foster meets his match
as he marries long time sweetheart in a romantic beachside union.
The evening that followed included rain and power failures plus
a couple of Foster speaches - that old Foster wit came to the
fore as stories of a wayward youth were shared including taking
off down the hill in Mum's car at a very young age (not sure
which twin was at the wheel). Donna added an element of excitement
to the event by arriving 30 minutes late - apparantly taken by
the days events she headed off from home without the bouquets
and there weren't many florists on the beach. All at Wesley wish
you a happy and loving life together.
February 2005
* Rowbotham returns for a flying visit. All were amazed when
he opened his wallet during an early Saturday morning raid at
a high-brow eating establishment in Epsom. Apparantly all the
moths had already died prior to opening. Rowbotham was heard
to say as he left the premises "My free drinking days are
behind me now I'm strickly a paying customer only". We must
wait and see on that one!!

a bit lucky Brent was injured and didn't do it and a few other

A word from Phil Wright(ex Wesley
now in Nelson) "At the NZ Cross Country champs on Sat in
sunny, but cool Christchurch, I placed 8th in the Masters (over
40) 8.2km race in a time of 28:38, my Waimea club won GOLD in
the 3 man club teams title, and our Tasman Provincial team (the
same 3 guys) finished 3rd (Bronze medal) out of the provincial
teams in the same race, Christchurch and Auckland where first
and second. It was said to of been one of the highest quality
fields at a masters champs in a long time.
Caught up with Barry but missed you
guys, all going well should see you at the Rd Relay champs."

Gambati Wesley. (Get your gumboots on Wesley!). Actually
it means go! go!
If it`s any consolation we`ve had 24
hours of rain and wind here being the side effects of a typhoon
that hit the mainland (and thankfully not northern Japan here).
Had a pretty good race to finish 7th in the first of three itu
international triathlon races here in Japan. There`s lots of
foreigners here racing more than I expected!
Igenkide (take care),
Brent Foster
10 July 2002
Word from Dean Foster "Brent got 7th in 1st race in
Japan after 1st in swim and bike.He has 2 more races." Say

Magee has been honored with a Member of the NZ Order of Merit
MNZM which we work out to be an MBE in the old Royal terms -
congrats again Barry.
Congratulations also to Renee Gunn and her aerobic team
who won the Auckland School's Regional Aerobic and Dance championships.
This has qualified them to compete in the National Champs to
be held in Hamilton in July.
Ex Wesleyite Greg Derbyshire has been seen lurking
at the Teams X-C race on Saturday apparantly he has flown all
the way from the USA just to receive some old fashion massage
from Big Bob in Hillsborough. Greg is looking to be a regular
patient while he gets himself right for another US College season
starting August. Bob if you are listening ... make it hurt! He
left Wesley and now it is revenge.
The Potters are looking to take a stranglehold on the
2002 NZ 100km Team management with Anne taking the lead role
of Team Manager - yes Mike does need looking after and since
she did such a great job in Rotorua last year(coach in absentia)
she has taking on Management of the whole team. Well done Anne
and remember discipline is what these athletes need - keep a
firm grip of those lads.
Coach Pascoe has been located and returned to home. He
has been placed on a fluid extraction diet on the hope that he
can again return to a glimmer of his former self. Unfortunately
his timing hasn't improved arriving two minutes after the start
of Saturday's race and leaving the family home open to thieves
in the process - lucky his wife is there to supervise his normal
daily movements.
6 June 2002
Barry Magee has just been honored in the Queen's birthday
honours list. Exact details are not to hand but Wesley congratulates
Barry on this achievement.

He claims he got lost on his way to the start line.

life Makiko - at this stage we are unsure as to when the wedding
bells will be ringing. Rumour has it that Al will vacate his
luxury room for Rodney once he has exchanged wedding vowels.
Brent Foster has recently returned from a successful
stay in Japan where he completed in the World triathlon series
placing an excellent 12th.
Ian Sussex & Mike Potter have just been selected
to represent NZ at the 2002 World 100km Champs in Brussells.
Further still Kerry Pascoe alias Blobby may be going as
Team Manager & official wine taster! Kerry is currently applying
for leave from home.
30/5 Update due to the short notification of the race details
the team is not now traveling to Brussels. Kerry meanwhile has
failed to gain leave approval and can be found at one of the
local Birkenhead cafes with a large half empty bottle of red
wine.
4/6 Blobby has been found but due to external influences has
decided not to escort Mike & Anne as they now head to Brussels
in a week or so to compete in the champs. Mike, we hope your
lack of NZ Athletics registration will not impact on your representation
legibility. Blobby will be available for moral support by mobile
phone apparently he will be camping out in the hills of some
National Park where reception can be optimised.
