Who are we?

The club was founded in 1933 making it one of the oldest Clubs in Auckland. Wesley has a strong Junior programme with emphasis on participation and fun. The junior programme is a mixture of individual team events with each one different and offering fresh challenges.

Among the senior ranks there has been a strong marathon interest largely due to life member & NZ 1960 Olympic Bronze medallist Barry Magee who in 1998 celebrated his 50th year with the club. Wesley Senior Men have consistently placed in the top ten at the NZ Road Relay Championships, in the top three at the Rotorua Marathon teams championship and have won Gold & Silver in the NZ Marathon Teams Championships in recent years.

In spite of such success Wesley remains a friendly family orientated club aimed at "Fun, Friends & Fitness" with a great mixture of swimmers/triathletes like NZ representatives Andrew & William Curtanye, Tom Moyes, Dean & Brent Foster, marathon and ultra runners like NZ representatives Kerry Pascoe, Mike Potter & Ian Sussex, tracksters, road runners, joggers and walkers. Currently two of our young seniors, Andrew Haigh & Simon Bucknell, are on American Athletic scholarships - studying and running in the USA.

The club events are geared towards family participation and aimed at supplementing external races with fun events like our Three Peaks run & breakfast, Mile races through Cornwall Park and the Riddell relay. Numerous training runs are held each week for club members and friends to come along to - hope to see you this season.

Honour Roll - Life Members

Over the years the club has recognised a number of individuals who have given up their time and energy and have demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to the Wesley. It has honoured these individuals with Life Membership of the club. Some of these have passed from our current world but we list their names in honour of their contribution.

Bruce Verry, Clive Woollett, Bruce Parkes, Barry Magee, Neil Barker, Lola Gilbert, Royce Norton, Gill Edwards, Stan Moore, Paul Norton, John Riddell, Bill Woodward, Geoff Haigh, Gary Watt, Alan Graham, John Sylvester and Ian Sussex
